Go Now!

Kosrae, Micronesia

I’ve been a gypsy scholar, off and on, for about twenty years. On March 6, 2020, I landed on the remote Pacific island of Kosrae two days before Micronesia declared a Covid-19 travel ban. I soon realized that being marooned on a gorgeous, virus-free paradise isn’t such a bad thing.

So, what does a traveler do when he can’t travel? He writes a book.

Before being marooned on Kosrae, I played and/or worked in 158 countries. Years of travel across six continents showed me the beauty and complexity of our world, and taught me about universal themes in different societies. A family in Kosrae will love, laugh, eat, sing and get into mischief just like one in Israel.

Go Now! is the story of my sixteen months in Kosrae and the adventures that led me here — plus my own brand of travel advice and philosophy. My luck and talent for meeting delightful people have led me on unforgettable paths and roads rarely traveled. The stories of my adventures in Go Now! will transport you from familiar landmarks to the far reaches of the globe. The book includes thirty of my most colorful adventures with fascinating history, maps and more than 100 photographs. Most of these stories haven’t been previously published.

With Go Now! you will join me as I explore Afghanistan, Australia, Chile, China, Cuba, Diego Garcia, Egypt, Ethiopia, Georgia, Greece, Guinea-Bissau, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Israel, Japan, Liberia, Madagascar, Malawi, Mayotte, Micronesia, Mozambique, Nepal, Papua New Guinea, Senegal, Serbia, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Tibet, Togo and Uganda.

If you’ve enjoyed reading my blogs, you’ll love Go Now!  Some stories are hilarious.  Others are nail-biting.  This book is my humble attempt to share what I’ve learned from all the places I’ve been and the people I’ve met.  The book also encapsulates my road wisdom to help you stay safe and happy should you feel inspired to embark on your own adventures.  I titled the book Go Now! because we’re not getting any younger and because our amazing planet is changing fast.  If you want to see what’s here before it’s gone, Go Now!

My friends in Kosrae hope lots of people will buy and read Go Now! because they want people to know where their island is. All profits from the sale of this book are donated to schools on Kosrae.
