Recent changes to STARS for Windows

By the way, if you're wondering why we skip some versions in the version log, it's because sometimes we release intermediate or internal versions to check or fix a problem quickly. At this time, STARS for Windows has no known bugs. If you find any, please drop a note to support@zoa.com to tell us what happened. Our turnaround time for bug fixes is about 48 hours.

1.48 -- 2001/07/04

• Version 1.48 corrects a bug in the Incident Report. Starting with this version, when an Incident Report has a Date Submitted entry which is prior to today's date, then the Incident Report cannot be edited except by the Admin user or a member of the Admins group.
• The Incident Report form has been officially renumbered from OPNAV 5527 to OPNAV 5580. The form number at the bottom of all the Incident Report forms has been revised.
• This version also adds a minor new feature. When you print a Voluntary Statement, you will have the option to specify a location and date for this statement other than today's date and your current site location. This will allow you to have more control over the heading/title information of this report.

1.47 -- 2000/07/11

• Version 1.047 has been renamed 1.47. There are no other differences between 1.47 and 1.047.

1.047 -- 2000/06/24

• This version corrects a problem in the ICR Export utility which occasionally resulted in GPF errors when exporting large numbers of Incident Reports.
• Also, when more than 16,000 personnel records were associated with Incident Reports, an overflow error could occur. This problem has been corrected.

1.046 -- 2000/03/01

• In previous versions, the ICR log listed Sponsors as Suspects. This version corrects this reporting error.

1.045 -- 2000/01/05

• When you view the case control screen displaying incidents listed in descending order by incident number, the ones starting with 00 will precede those starting with 99.

1.044 -- 2000/01/02

• This version is the December version of 1.043 renumbered as version 1.044 in order to alert STARS users to the fact that important Y2K changes have been made last May which should be downloaded and installed.

• Minor adjustments to date handling to ensure Y2K compliance in all versions of Windows.
• Corrections to spelling errors on subforms.
• Enhancements to ICR import functions to allow incomplete ICRs to be imported from one computer to another.

• Changed QuickText so that new text is appended to existing text in CommLog and Desk Journal. Also modified QuickText selectors for faster selection by code words.
• Fixed page length on CommLog to prevent overwriting of bottom page frame.
• Corrected Desk Journal so that Action Taken information is not merged and so that lines of Incident description are not omitted at page breaks.
• Corrected ICR's Vehicle Description so that boxes can be unchecked.

• Modified upgrade process to prevent database corruption that could result if STARS is upgraded to a newer version while other users are logged in.
• Improved the spell-checker functions to handle lower, UPPER and Proper case entries properly in CommLog, Desk Journal and ICRs.
• Adjusted the main ICR form to be narrower to accommodate low-res monitors.
• Fixed minor spelling errors on ICR form.

• In case of database corruption, the main STARS database is automatically repaired on startup of the application.

• Resolved problems with memory overflow on printing of ICR narrative block. Also, expanded error messages on printing of ICR narrative block to allow for better and more accurate identification problems.

• CommLog and Desk Journal record all new entries at the bottom of the screen. (This allows the fastest data entry.)
• Desk Journal control screen displays assigned Incident Numbers.
• BCNs increment properly on Desk Journal.
• Fonts in Desk Journal are standardized so that What You See Is What You Get.
• Author of ICR changes only if Author or Admins user changes the Author.
• On ICR Vehicle Description form, check boxes can be unchecked.
• In Section VIII of the ICR, officer Middle Initials can be entered.
• In Section XI of the ICR, the check boxes for Incident Status can be unchecked.
• UIC/RUCs can now include alpha characters.

1.016 -- 1998/06/10

• On all the main datasheets, the side bar buttons now have shortcut letters. Just hit A for Add, P for print, etc. You can also double-click on a record to edit it.
• On the CommLog, the edit form has up/down buttons to allow you to flip quickly through your entries.
• On the Journal, you can assign an incident # at any time.
• Removed gray shadow that remained after Journal entries were added.
• The site name is added to the heading of the printed Desk Journal.
• In this version, you cannot change the author of an ICR, yet the author field will change to the current user's name if a user edits the ICR. These problems will be fixed in a later version.
• When a person is added to the Personnel database, his Duty Station, UIC and Arrival date are automatically filled in.
• On the QuickText modules, the View and search buttons have been removed from the side bar. Up/down buttons are added to the edit form to allow you to flip through the entries.

• Changed appearance of up/down direction arrows on Desk Journal edit form.
• In printing Desk Journal, changed the default print date to yesterday.
• New CommLog and Desk Journal entries are still being added to bottom of screen. (This is a temporary situation to improve speed.)
• Fixed Author field of ICR so that it is not changed unless data in report is changed.
• Fixed printing problem on ICR (Sections VIII and X did not print if no suspect).
• Fixed spelling error on ICR, Section VII. (Handled Within Department)
• Reviewed data entry of people related to Incident Report; ensured that when user enters a SSN found in personnel database that all relevant information is copied to appropriate ICR blocks.
• Corrected problem with printing Personnel detail when more than 4 traffic citations are involved.
• Fixed problem in which reports printed text with grey background shading on all pages after page 1. (This problem was limited to about 10% of Windows 95 installations.)
• Modified Security functions for adding users to make sure that user IDs longer than 7 characters cannot be created. (Long user IDs caused problems when adding new ICR records.)
