Installing STARS for Windows 1.48

Please note: STARS for Windows 1.48 is the last 16-bit version of STARS and has been superceded by the 32-bit STARS. The only reason the be on this page is to download version 1.48 in preparation for migrating to STARS 2.xx. Version 1.48 is posted here for users who are using Windows 3.1, 95, 98 or NT.

You have two software download options. Select the one appropriate to your situation: Whether you download the Full Installation file or the Quick Update file, save the file into a folder where you can find it later.

Installation Instructions

Installing or upgrading STARS is easy. Follow the instructions below that apply to what you'd like to do:

Starting STARS

Whether you are doing a new installation of STARS or updating an existing installation, you now start STARS. If you are updating an existing STARS installation, be sure that all users are logged out of STARS before proceeding further. Double-click the STARS icon. The screen will display a progress bar as it creates and/or modifies your STARS databases for compatibility with the current version. Then, STARS will display a message informing you whether the databases were properly created or updated.

Assuming your installation was successful, click OK and then restart STARS one more time from the STARS icon. If yours is a new installation of STARS for Windows, you will need to enter the program using the standard default master administrator ID and password.

Final Note

If you plan to use the File / Import function within STARS for Windows to import any of your existing STARS for DOS data, you must be sure that your current version of STARS for DOS is version 1.62. Otherwise the file structures won't be compatible. Please download version 1.62 of STARS for DOS (if you haven't already done so) and upgrade your STARS for DOS to 1.62 before you proceed with using STARS for Windows.
